A helping hand for a Fiji school

Lodge Independent Lewis No 592

W Bro Geoff Ferguson of Lodge Independent Lewis 592 has extended a helping hand and a load of books to a needy school in Fiji.

On a visit to Malolo Island Resort, he and his wife Judi visited the primary school on the island which is half an hour by boat from the resort.

The school has about 140 students and is situated on the edge of a beach, consists of eight classrooms, the teachers’ common room and a small room with seven books which is used as a library.

‘We became involved by supplying them with books and on our next visit met the headmaster, Mr Filipo Tuitani and the staff,’ he said.

‘The reception was overwhelming and they were so proud to show us the library and all its new books. The school put on a singing and dancing concert and afternoon tea and we later met the Paramount Chief who also thanked us and provided a kava ceremony.

‘We have now sent more than 300 books to the school, many from the Lithgow Primary school library with the assistance of Bro Howard Fisher, who helps with the collecting and sorting.’

The Fergusons are now helping the ‘Treasure House’ orphanage in Nadi, Fiji.
