James Knox Polk (1795 - 1849)

 

Eleventh President of U.S.A.

 

 

 

 

 

Term of Office :- March 4th. 1845 - March 4th. 1849

First Lady :- Sarah Childress

Vice President :- George M. Dallas

 

 

 

James Knox Polk was one of the more successful presidents. During his single presidential term he acquired large amounts of territory, faced down Great Britain, reduced the tariff, and established a new, independent treasury. Worn out from his efforts, Polk died less than a year after leaving the White House.

 

 

 

Brother James was a member of Lodge Columbia No. 21 Tennessee

And rose to the rank of Junior Warden.

He assisted at the Laying of the Cornerstone of the Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C. May 1st. 1847.
