William Howard Taft (1857 - 1930)

Twenty - seventh President of U.S.A.

William Howard Taft never truly wanted to become president; he wanted to be chief justice of the U.S.A. he did finally attain that position, but first he went through a difficult Presidency that was under the shadow of the recently departed, Theodore Roosevelt.

Taft ended the second American occupation of Cuba, he also negotiated treaties of arbitration between Great Britain and France: although the Senate eventually rejected these treaties, they remain testaments to Tafts idealism

Bro. William was initiated Feb. 18th. 1909. He was made a "mason at sight" within the body of Kilwinning Lodge No.356 Cincinnati, Ohio by Grand Master Charles S. Hoskinson.

His father and two brothers were also members of this lodge.

Bro. and President Taft addressed the brethren saying "I am glad to be here, and to be a Mason. it does me good to feel the thrill that comes from recognising on all hands the fatherhood of God and the brotherhood of man."
