"The Masonic High Council the Mother High Council has adopted the following Resolution as a Standard of Recognition in respect of any Foreign Jurisdictions."
1. Regularity of origin: i.e., each Grand Lodge shall have been established lawfully by an authentic body of the Craft or a duly recognized Grand Lodge or by three or more regularly constituted lodges.2. That there be no debarment from membership because of nationality, of race, of colour, of sectarian or political belief; that a belief in the G.A.O.T.U. and His revealed will shall be an essential qualification for membership.
3. That all Initiates shall take their Obligation on or in full view of the open Volume of Sacred Law, by which is meant the revelation from above which is binding on the conscience of the particular individual who is being initiated.
4. That the membership of the Grand Lodge and individual Lodges shall be composed exclusively of men.
5. That the Grand Lodge shall have sovereign jurisdiction over the Lodges under its control, i.e., that it shall be a responsible, independent, self-governing organisation with sole and undisputed authority over the Craft or Symbolic Degrees (Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason) within its jurisdiction; and shall not in any way be subject to, or divide such authority with, a Supreme Council or other Power claiming any control or supervision over those degrees.
5.1 That preserves, works and performs the complement ceremonies of the Mark Man, Mark Mason to the Fellow Craft Degree and Installed or Past Master Ceremonies to the Master Mason Degree.
6. That the three Great Lights of Freemasonry shall always be exhibited when the Grand Lodge or its constituent Lodges are at work, the chief of these being the Volume of Sacred Law.
7. That the discussion of religion and politics within the Lodge shall be prohibited.
8. That the principles of the Ancient Charges, Customs, and Usages of the Craft shall be strictly observed.
9. That a Grand Lodge must be multi-ritualistic.
These constitute the Basic Principles for Grand Lodge recognition to be considered clause by clause.
Secretary General, MHC
Irregular and Unrecognised Grand Lodges
The MHC reminds all Members of the Craft that they should take great care before joining any organisation which purports to be Masonic. If in doubt a written enquiry should be made of the Secretary General. There are some self-styled Masonic bodies that do not meet these standards, e.g. which do not require a belief in a Supreme Being, or which allow or encourage their members to participate as such in political matters and some of these self-styled Masonic bodies have even become little more than social clubs. These bodies are regarded by the MHC as being Masonically irregular and Masonic contact with them should be avoided at all times.
The Regular Grand Lodge of England is recognised by the Masonic High Council the Mother High Council of the World(MHC). Grand Lodges all over the world are federated into the MHC.
The Regular Grand Lodge of England is one of such Grand Lodges as is fully recognised by the MHC.
The MHC does not recognise organisations which do not comply either by ritual or administration with the Masonic precepts of ancient English Craft Freemasonry. The MHC considers such organisations to be irregular.
One such organisation that fails to meet the required standards of recognition laid down by the Board of Regularity and Masonic Jurisprudence of the MHC is the so called United Grand Lodge of England, which, over the years, has departed from the precepts of Craft Freemasonry. The MHC was established on the 25th of January 2005 and its’ task is to reform the Craft by preserving the original traditions of ancient Craft Freemasonry and to amend what has gone amiss within Freemasonry over the aforementioned period.
The MHC holds an Annual Communication and General Assembly of Masons.
