Dear George,

I wanted to put in writing our profound gratitude to the Freemasons of Ireland for the donation of €220,000 to Samaritans Ireland. We were absolutely delighted and never anticipated such a large amount of money would be raised.

The funds will be put to good use and amongst other things, will enable us to recruit and train volunteers to maintain the 24hour help lines over the coming three years. I will keep you updated on the work being supported by the Freemasons donation over the coming years.

Being a beneficiary of the Grand Master's Festival 08 was such a positive experience for everyone at Samaritans, from every aspect. It was a pleasure to meet you all and to learn about the Freemasons and their tremendous work for charities in Ireland. Please pass on my thanks to all the Freemasons around Ireland who worked so hard to raise this money and in particular to Basil, Rodney, Trevor and Richard, each of whom was a delight to work with.
