 Masonic Temple in Kirk Road, Nairobi (built over underground river) starts to disintegrate and serious thoughts given by Masonic Trustees to new building.

ORIENT LODGE, 3703 EC, consecrated Nairobi 14 February by Richard Bland,  

THE PROGRESS LODGE, 3727 EC, consecrated Nairobi 16 December by C.N.M. Harrison (PM Lodge Harmony) and Sir Charles Calvert Bowring (later to become) first Grand Inspector of East African Lodges installed as Master.


1918

July: Mombasa Lodge moved from Tangana to Salim Road South (present site) to new Lodge building erected of mud and wattle on land made over to the Lodge by Sir Ali Salim.

11th August: A Petition for New Lodge, to be called “The Lodge Zanzibar” was signed at Zanzibar, East Africa, by the following Brethren, and forwarded to the M W G M, W Bro Stanley Rivers-Smith, W Bro James Henry Hewett, Bro Harold William Leslie Waller, Bro Kuttichira Kunju Nayar, Bro Mohamedali Wali Nazarali, Bro Mohamedally Bhaloo Lakha Velani, Bro Charles Leonard MacIntyre, Bro Arthur Edward Gardner & W Bro Bernard Henry Wiggins.

The Petition, which prayed for a Warrant empowering the Petitioners to meet as a Regular Lodge, was recommended by the Worshipful Master, the Wardens and a majority of the Members of Lodge East Africa No. 3007.

15th November: The Petition was granted and a Warrant was issued authorising the establishment of “The Lodge Zanzibar,” No. 3897, on the Register of the Grand Lodge of England, to meet at the Masonic Temple, Zanzibar, on the first Friday in every month, and to carry on the work of Freemasonry.

The Worshipful Master appointed by the Warrant wasW Bro J H Hewett, the Senior Warden was Bro H W L Waller and the Junior Warden Bro Mohamedally Bhaloo Lakha Velani.There were, however, no further notable developments until 1920.


1919

1920

29th March: A cablegram from the Grand Secretary authorised W Bro Francis Charlesworth, P M of Lodge East Africa, No. 3007 to act as Consecrating Officer of the New Lodge Zanzibar No. 3897 EC.

21st April: The Lodge was Constituted and Consecrated at the Masonic Temple Zanzibar, by W Bro Francis Charlesworth, assisted by W Bro Withycombe as Senior Warden, W Bro J Parnall as Junior Warden, W Bro H W L Waller as Chaplain, W Bro S Rivers-Smith as Director of Ceremonies and W Bro Wiggins as Organist.

At the conclusion of the Ceremony W Bro Charlesworth Installed W Bro J H Hewett First Worshipful Master of the new Lodge.

Essential repairs to Kirk Road Temple cost Shs. 2,174.97, Caretaker accepts reduction in salary from Shs. 300 to Shs. 200 per month, servants  wages total shs. 55 per month, Building Sub-Committee of Masonic Trustees headed by Arthur Legat starts work to obtain plot for new Masonic Temple in Nairobi. Lodge East Africa No. 3007 EC erased by the Grand Lodge on 5th September 1945, it having ceased to meet and handed in its warrant.

9th December - Lodge Zanzibar No. 3897 EC, erased by Grand Lodge, because of the revolution which took place in that country in January 1964.  The new government banned meetings of societies and social clubs. A number of members of the Lodge held a private meeting and resolved to wind up the Lodge and return its warrant. In

1963 the Lodge had ordered a banner, based on the design approved by the Grand Master, from Toye Kenning in London but was not able to acquire it. The banner is on display in their shop in Great Queen Street, London.


1965

John Hamill, PJGD Librarian and Curator of Grand Lodge. Following the Conference the half–yearly Communication held under the banner of Lodge of the Coast No. 7518 was attended by R.W. Bro. Brian B. Heshon, District Grand Master of Zambia.

8th October: The Nairobi Lodge of Instruction was revived.  The R W The District Grand Master appointed W Bro V K Talwar as Convenor - Preceptor, W Bro M W Holt as Preceptor, W Bro A K C Popat as Preceptor - Secretary and W Bro S S Dhadialla as Treasurer.  The first meeting after the revival was held on 11th November 1991.

24th August: R.W. Bro J.K. Chande DGM awarded posthumously his Certificate of Service to Freemasonry to W. Bro Pramukh F. Patel on 28 February 1992 and presented it to his widow at a special luncheon hosted by the District Board of General Purposes.

6th January: Freemasons in Jinja, Uganda, repossessed after 20 years, the Masonic Temple at Plot No. 12, Nile Avenue,Jinja.

14th April: ATD Ghadialy succeeds George Wade as Grand Superintendent RA EC.

29th and 30th May: Third Freemasons’ Conference held in Mombasa attended by 98 brethren from EC. Papers presented included one from R W Bro Simon F N Waley, Provincial Grand Master, West Kent on “Freemasonry in the Future”.

20th June:  Especial Communication on occasion of 275th anniversary of the United Grand Lodge of England held in Nairobi at which W Bro Andrew Brass, ADGM gave an address on “275 years of English Craft Masonry”.

17th July:  Printed media in Tanzania carried an article by RW Bro Chande, DGM containing history of English Freemasonry and of District Grand Lodge of East Africa, EC. 130 Freemasons and their ladies helped to raise Tanzania Shillings 4 million for non-masonic charities at a dinner in Dar es Salaam. Freemasons were honoured by the presence of President Ali Hassan Mwinyi who was the principal guest.

25th July:  1200 Freemasons and their guests participated in a gala banquet and were entertained to a music and dance programme at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, Nairobi. The banquet supplemented fund-raising efforts for the 275th anniversary of the United Grand Lodge helping to make a total contribution of Kenya Shs 1 million for non-Masonic charities.

16th July - Four English Constitution Lodges in Uganda presented operating theatre equipment worth USD 10,000. - to Mengo Hospital  in Kampala.  The presentation was made by J K Chande, DGM. The Lodge room in Freemasons’ Hall was televised and radio-TV interview was given by RW Bro J K Chande, DGM.

22nd August - Workshop for training of Secretaries of English Constitution Lodges held in Freemasons’Hall, Nairobi attended by 98 Masons from 41 lodges at which papers were presented by District Grand Secretary, District Assistant Grand Secretary and by Training and Education officer of United Grand Lodge who travelled specially for the occasion.

10th September - During an official visit by R W Bro J K Chande, District Grand Master to the Seychelles Lodge No. 8789 EC W Bro J Kwast the retiring Master presented to the Lodge its first banner.


1998

13 February: Kisumu Lodge of Instruction was sponsored  by the three Kisumu based Lodges and W Bros Shashikant Maganlal Shah, Sharad Maganbhai Patel and Bupen Motichand Shah were appointed the first Preceptors and W Bro S K Somaia was appointed the Secretary - Treasurer.  The first meeting was held on 13th February 1998 and was attended by V W Bro V K Talwar and W Bro M W Holt, the Preceptors of Nairobi Lodge of Instruction.

26th February: Consecration of the East Africa Lodge of Installed Mark Masters No. 1787 by R W Bro. A. S. Brass.

17th August 1998: The District Grand Master held a press conference to explain the purpose of the Sixth Freemasons’ Conference and to announce the formation by the District Grand Charity of the “Freemasons Fund to Assist bomb Explosion Victims” the aim of which is to provide secondary eduction for the children of the victims and free specialist medical assistnce to the victims.

18th to 20th August 1998: Sixth Freemasons’ Conference held at Mombasa at the Tiwi Travellers’ Beach Hotel, attended by 152 delegates from each of the 47 Lodges in the District.

21st August 1998: Half-Yearly Communication of The District Grand Lodge held in the newly named “Chande Hall”, Tiwi Travellers’ Beach Hotel, the first Communication in Kenya held outside a Masonic Hall.


1999

26th February: “Workshop for the training of Lodge Almoners” held at Freemasons’ Hall, Nairobi attended by 68 Masons from 26 Lodges. It was conducted by the District Grand Almoner, W. Bro. Rohit Radia.

20th August: Consecration in Nairobi, Kenya of Seychelles Installed Masters Lodge No. 9691 EC by R W Bro J K Chande, District Grand Master, in the presence  of 62 brethren.  W. Bro. Robert Anthony Duncan was installed at the first Master.


2000

17th February: East Africa Millennium Lodge No. 9701 sponsored by Gerald Nevill Lodge No 9161 consecrated in Nairobi by R W Bro Jayantilal K Chande.

18th February: Round Table Lodge No 9711 sponsored by Orient Lodge No. 3703 consecrated in Nairobi by R W Bro Jayantilal K Chande.

March -The Grand Master of The Order of the Temple, M. Em. & Rev. Fr. Roy Scott, GCT, makes an official visit to the Preceptory in Ruiru, the first such visit to Kenya by a Head of this Order.

25th-26th August: Seventh Freemasons’ Conference held at Travellers Beach Hotel, Mombasa, attended by 172 members from 48 Lodges.  Papers presented included one by W Bro. Robert Gilbert, PPrSGD(Glos) a Past Master of Quatuor Coronati Lodge and former editor of ARS Quatuor Coronatorum on “Anti-Masonry and how to overcome it.”

12 October: Goodwill Lodge No. 5450 which was consecrated on 30th April 1934 by W Bro N D Thackrah, most of whose members also belonged to Tanga Fraternity Lodge No. 4830, resolved to surrender the warrant of the Lodge on 6th March 2000. The Grand Lodge at its meeting on 13th December 2000 accepted the recommendation of the Board of General Purposes to erase the Lodge.


2001

April - The Rt. Hon. The Earl of Elgin and Kincardine, KT, JP, The First Grand Principal of the Supreme Grand Chapter of Scotland and the Deputy Grand Master and Governor of the Grand Lodge of the Royal Order of Scotland paid an Official visit to his District Grand Royal Arch Chapter and Provincial Grand Lodge of the Royal Order of Scotland, respectively.

14th July: The foundation stone for a two-storeyed building of Mount Meru Lodge No. 7504 for a Masonic Hall with dining and refreshment facilities was laid in Selian, Arusha by RW Bro J  K Chande, DGM with Hatim Khanbhai, Worshipful Master of the Lodge and W Bro M W Holt, District Grand Director of Ceremonies in attendance.

25th August: Following the Half-Yearly Communication whereat a paper on “Freemasonry and the Royal Albert Hall” by W Bro Harold Gould, OBE, JP, BA, DL, PJGD, a Past Master of Jubilee Masters Lodge No. 2712 and Past President of Royal Albert Hall was read and a film on Freemasonry produced by the Province of Yorkshire (West Riding) was shown.  Ladies joined the members at the banquet.


2002

4th February: The WM of Lodge Harmony, on behalf of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, presented to VW Bro Andrew Brass a Jubilee Certificate to mark the fiftieth anniversary of continous membership of his mother Lodge since his initiation in November 1950.

5th March: Mahe Rose Croix Chapter consecrated in Bel Ombre, Seychelles, by M. ILL. Bro. G L Tedder, 330 Grand Treasurer General HE, of the Supreme Council 330 of the Ancient and Accepted Rite for England and Wales and its Districts and Chapters overseas.

6th March: Andrew Brass becomes the first resident member of the Ancient and Accepted Rite in East Africa to be elevated to the Thirty-third degree since the Rite was established in Nairobi in 1926.

25th April: The Supreme Council of the Ancient and Accepted Rite awards its Jewel for Meritorious Service in the 180 to E&P Bro.Tony Yarinakis.

4th May: E. Comp. Jayantilal K Chande succeeds E. Comp. A T D Ghadialy as Grand Superintendent RA EC.

6th May: E. Comp. Jayantilal K Chande consecrated Chande Chapter No. 9496 EC at Freemasons’ Hall, Nairobi.

11th October: R W Bro Jayantilal K Chande, District Grand Master dedicated the renovated Masonic building and its extension and in presence of 63 brethren attended the 25th anniversary meeting of Seychelles Lodge No. 8789.

12th October: 220 Freemasons and guests joined R W Bro Jayantilal K Chande, District Grand Master and W Bro M A R Rene Worshipful Master of the Seychelles Lodge No. 8789 at the 25th anniversary celebrations dinner.  Chief Guest, the Minister for Health, the Hon. Patrick Georges Pillay received from the District Grand Master and from the Worshipful Master USD. 2000 worth of ENT equipment for the Victoria Hospital. First visit by E Comp Jayantilal K Chande, Grand Superintendent RA Chapter EC to a Chapter under the District.  He visited the Seychelles Chapter No. 8789 when 36 companions were present including 11 founder members.


2003

February: Thirty years after Freemasonry was banned in Uganda the Ancient and Accepted Rite returned to that country when the Pearl of Africa Rose Croix Chapter No 1151 was consecrated in Kampala, Uganda, by M. ILL Bro. Rev. Dr. M. Morgan, Grand Prior of the Supreme Council 330 of the Ancient and Accepted Rite for England and Wales and its Districts and Chapters overseas. ILL Bro Phil Sherwin 310 was installed as its first MWS.


2004

March: Andrew Schoborgh Brass promoted to the rank of Knight Commander of the Temple in the Great Priory of Scotland, the frist Templar Mason in East Africa to recieve Lodge this, their  highest honour.

9th September: The R W Bro Sir J K Chande paid an official visit to mark the 75th anniversary of theon Saturday 11th September 2004.  Celebrations included dinner on Friday evening at which Freemasons were honoured by the Tanzania Govenment through the presence of the Hon. Regional Commissioner. The Mayor of Moshi also attended the celebratory events. Charity presentations were made to two primary schools and to the Girls Guide Association. Trees were planted in the Masonic building by the R W the District Grand Master, the Hon. Regional Commissioner and the Mayor.

Throughout the year under the guidance of Centenary Celebrations Committee which was headed by V W Bro V K Talwar a number of fund-raising events were organised including golf tournaments in Kampala and Nairobi at which rotating trophies were launched to honour the R W the District Grand Master Sir J K Chande and the winners received Andy Chande Trophy at the Sigona Club on17th September 2004 and the Uganda Trophy at the celebratory banquet at the Intercontinental Hotel on 25th September 2004 which was attended by 360 members and guests.  As Kenya Vice-President was unable to attend due to unexpected duty call he was represented by a senior officer who read out the speech in which whilst complimenting Freemasons he said “your members have substantially contibuted to a large number of charitable and welfare organizations and on behalf of the Govenment and I thank you for your continued support to supplement the govenment’s efforts of improving the quality of life of the people” A most entertaining musical  program was arranged including a multi-denominationa song for promoting peace in the world. The R W Bro Sir J K Chande launched  the Centenary Souvenir produced by W Bro Archie McCorkindale.

During the year Charitable givings to orphanges, health centers, primay schools and hospitals was made and 500 cataract surgeries in Dar Es Salaam, Zanzibar, Nairobi , Mombasa and the Seychelles were carried out.  ENT surgical assistance was provided by W Bro Harish Rupani to the Victoria Hospital in the Seychelles and Mnazi Mmoja Hospital in Zanzibar.  As part of centenary  celebrations 1000 trees in Karura Forest, Kenya and 250 trees were planted in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

22nd September: The R W Bro Sir J K Chande was interviewed by television journalist and the main temple, library and museum and the surroundings of Freemasons Hall were video filmed which was telecasted on the major networks in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.  The R W Bro Sir J K Chande also took part in four television and five radio programs in Nairobi, Kenya including two live programs including BBC English and Swahili services. Four newspapers carried interviews and feature articles.

9th October:  350 Members and guests participated in the gala banquet at the Royal Palm Hotel in Dar Es Salaam at which the Guest of Honour was Tanzania’s President William Benjamin Mkapa and Mrs Mkapa. The banquet was attended by 350 members and guests of which included diplomats, business leaders and captains of  industry. At the banquet President Mkapa praised the work of Freemasons and inter alia said “I commend you not only for aspiring to high ideals but for setting an example for others emulate”. In his view Freemasons were a role model.

8th November: His Excellency the Vice-President of Kenya Moody Awori visited the Freemasons Hall and joined at a tea-party with over 100 members and guests present when presentations to various charities were made.  His Excellency the Vice-President whilst complimenting Freemasons inter alia said, “The devotion to help our people particulary those members of our society who are considered less fortunate is a demonstration of your creed of temperance, fortitude and sacrifice to uplift their lives........” He interacted with members and said that many of the members were friends and people he knew.


2005

26th March - Consecretion in   Moshi, Tanzania of the East Africa 1st Principles  Chapter No 9701 by E Comp Sir  Jayantilal K  Chande, KBE and installation of E Comps Amritial Hirji Harkhani as Z  KennethTaylor as H and Joseph A Aluoch as J. 46 Companions including a few visitors attended the ceremony which was followed by lunch in the Lodge building.

26th March - Consecration in Moshi, Tanzania of the Lodge East Africa No.9794 by RW  Bro Jayantilal K Chande,KBE in presence of 112 founders and visitors one of whom travelled from the Seychelles.

This is the 50th Lodge in the District will commemorate the milestone of introduction of Freemasonry in this region in the 1904 and reflects in its membership the demography of the region. R W Bro Sir Jayantilal K Chande, KBE was installed as the first Master with V W Bro Virendra Kumar Talwar from Kenya as the senior Warden and W Bro Narender A Thakkar from Uganda as the Junior Warden.

9th April: R W Bro Dr Virendra Kumar Talwar installed as District Grand Master of East Africa to succeed R W Bro Sir J K Chande KBE.  Total attendance 416 including R W Bro David Cons Pro Provincial Grand Master of Middlesex, W Bro Percy Jamshed Driver Assistant District Grand Master of Bombay and North India, W Bro Colin Bryant PSGD and Past Assistant Provincial Grand Master of Gloucestershire and Bro Phil Sherwin, Grand Superintendent in and over East Africa Scottish Constitution.

4th May: The Lodge Harmony No. 3084 EC celebrated their Centenary having been consecrated on 1st May 1905.  R W Bro Sir J K Chande KBE, PDGM was installed at the Centenary Worshipful Master. R W Bro Dr Virendra Kumar Talwar MBS officiated his first function as District Grand Master in handing over the Centenary Warrant to the Lodge.

June: M E Comp Hasmukh J. Patel succeeds M E Comp David I Jenkins as Grand Superintendant, District Grand Chapter of East Africa, Scottish Constitution.

24th September: E Comp Dr Virendra Kumar Talwar MBS succeeds E Comp Sir Jayantilal Keshavji Chande as Grand Superintendent, District Grand Chapter of East Africa.

25th February: Enkare Nairobi Rose Croix Chapter No. 1174 Consecrated by V Puissant Bro Alan Englefield, 33, Lieutenant Grand Commander and Ill Bro Walter Ookok 32,Enthroned as first MWS

8th March: R W Bro Sir J K Chande honoured by the Most Worshipful the Grand Master with the Order of Service to Masonry.

5th August: 94 years after Freemasonry started in Uganda, the first Ugandan English Royal Arch Chapter Consecrated in Kisumu by the Grand Superintenent E Comp Dr V K Talwar.

28th October: R W Bro Dr V K Talwar paid an Official Visit to mark the 75th Anniversary of Guiding Star Lodge.  Freemasons were honoured by the presence of Hon Margaret Sitta MP and Minister for Education and Vocational Training in Tanzania and the Inspector General of police Mr Siadi Mwema.  Members of the Guiding Star Lodge presented a cheque of Tz Sh. 5 million to the Hon Minister, for the education of orphan and needy children.  Trees were planted in the Masonic premises by the R W the District Grand Master and the Hon Minister.

21 - 23 September: The first ever Freemasons’ Conference held in Uganda at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda.  A record attendance of 451 participants including 13 Masons from the United Kingdom and 1 from India. More than US Dollars 80,000.00 raised by Freemasons for the construction of two new custom build dormitories for  the Kampala School for the Physically Handicapped.  The District Grand Master R W Bro Dr V K Talwar offciated at the Foundation stone Laying ceremony at which the First Lady of Uganda, Mama Janet Museveni laid the foundation stone.

16 - 18 November: R W Bro Dr V K Talwar accompanied by 26 Masons from East Africa attended the Third Freemasons’ Eye Camp in the Seychelles at which 78 patients had successful cataract surgeries.  The District Grand Master accompanied by the District Grand Secretary W Bro Dr Harish Rupani paid courtesy calls on the President of the Seychelles, H E President James Michel at State House and the Minister of Health, Madam MacSuzy Mondon.


2007

19th May: R W Bro Dr V K Talwar, paid an official visit to mark the 50th Anniversary of Mwanza Lodge No. 7485 EC. He also officiated at the opening of the new dining hall at the Masonic Temple and the Education Block at the Montessori Maria Secondary School.  

1st June: R W Bro A A McCorkindale paid an official to Mt Mawenzi Lodge No. 906 of Mark Master Masons and participated in the 75th Anniversarty Celebrations.

2nd June: R W Bro Dr V K Talwar paid an official visit to Arusha to mark the 50th Anniversary of Mt Meru Lodge No.7504 EC. R W Bro Dr V K Talwar assisted by Grand Officers officiated at the Dedication of the renovated Temple at Selian,Arusha, in the presence of 130 Brethren. Charity presenation was made to an orphanage.

7th July: R W Bro Dr V K Talwar, accompanied by the Trustees of the District Grand Charity handed over two boreholes to the District Officer and Community elders of Makindu District.  This was part of the on going water related projects by the Famine Relief Committee with support of Impact East Africa.

4th August: District Grand Lodge of East Africa Scottish Contitution inaugurated in Nairobi by Bro Kenneth Donald Kennedy Depute Grand Master, Bro David Mackay Begg, Grand Secretary, Bro W R McGhee, Grand Director of Ceremonies.Bro Mansur Asaria installed as the first District Grand Master of the District Grand Lodge of East Africa, Scottish Constitution.

22nd September: At the Half Yearly Communication of the District Grand Lodge of East Africa, R W Bro Dr V K Talwar awarded Certificate of Service to Freemasonry to W Bro T D Byramji and W Bro Amritlal H Harkhani.

27th October: Official visit of R W Bro Dr V K Talwar at the 50th Anniversary meeting of the Lodge of the Coast No. 7518 EC.  R W Bro Dr V K Talwar officially opened and handed over a class room, built by Masons in conjunction with Elimu Foundation to Majengo Primary School.

16th November: Mamlaka Chapter Rose Croix No. 1184 Consecrated by the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Order, Most Puissant Bro Gerald Tedder, 33’, and Ill Brother Walter Ookok, 32’, Enthroned as first MWS.


2008

February: Fund for Internally Displaced People under the auspices of District Grand Charity established. Contributions received from District Grand Charity of Ksh. 1 million and from Grand Charity of GBP 10,000.00. Assistance provided to Kenya Red Cross, SOS Children’s Home and the Catholic Diocese of Kitale.

24th February - 2nd March: The 4th Freemasons’ Eye Camp in Seychelles in conjunction with Lions Sight First Hospital at which 243 eye surgeries were performed.

March: Lodge of Eldoret No. 9531 amalgamated with Nandi Border Lodge No. 4756.

April: R W Bro Phil Sherwin installed as District Grand Master of MMM by R W Bro A A McCorkindale.

July: The 9th Freemasons’ Conference Charity launched at a Celebrity Charity Cricket Match organised by Mombasa Freemasons. R W Bro Dr Virendra K Talwar, District Grand Master attended the fundraising, while the chief  guest Mr Kanubhai Babla pledged Ksh. 40 million.  During the Conference, the District Grand Master officiated  at a Tree planting ceremony to mark the commitment of the Freemasons in the construction and rehabilitation of Diani Secondary school.  Over Ksh. 70 million has been  pledged to this project.  Also as part of  the 9th Freemasons’ Charity, the Freemasons of Dar es Salaam, together with the US Embassy and the US Combined Joint Task Force, Horne of Africa completed and handed over the Mikocheni Clinic to the local Authorities at a total cost of US$ 100,000.The clinic was officially opened by H E Mark Green-US Ambassador, Admiral Phillip Greene - Commander of US Combined Joint Task Force Horne of Africa and W Bro B K Tanna, Assistant District Grand Master.

25 - 28 September: The 9th Freemasons’ Conference held at the Leisure Lodge Resort, Mombasa.  Attendance of 419 participants including R W Bro Pierre Malan, District Grand Master, South Africa, Eastern Division and 19 Masons from Lodges in England.  The highlight was the Prestonian Lecture on “The Language of the Ritual” by W Bro Robert Sillett, PJGD.  This was the first time a Prestonian Lecture was delivered in Africa.


2009

24th January: R W Bro Dr V K Talwar assisted by Grand Officers officiated at the Dedication of the Masonic Hall at Nyeri, Kenya.

26th September: At  the Half Yearly Communication of the District Grand Lodge of East Africa, R W Bro Dr V K Talwar awarded Certificate of Service to Freemasonry to W Bro Harnam Singh Mhajan.


2010

June: Iona Royal Arch Chapter No 667SC was reponed and rededicated at Freemasons Hall, Nairobi by the First Grand Principal, M E Comp John Alexander Fraser of the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Scotland.

Its warrant having been surrendered in 1998.

June: M E Comp Jagdish J Bhatt succeeds M E Comp Hasmukh J Patel as Grand Superintendant, District Grand Chapter of East Africa, Scottish Constitution and was installed by the First Grand Principal, M E Comp John Alexander Fraser of the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Scotland.

31st July: R W Bro Dr. V K Talwar accompanied by many dignitaries and Freemasons handed over the dormitories and the sick bay to the Board of Managememt of the Kampala School of the Physically Handicapped which was the 8th FMC’s charity project. The project was completed at a cost of USD 150,000.

23rd - 26th Septemter:  The 10th Freemasons’ Conference held at the Whitesands Hotel and Resort, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Attendance of 298 participants including R W Bro Virendra K Talwar - DGM, V W Bro Graham Redman, Assistant Grand Secretary of UGLEA, R W Bro Pierre Malan - DGM, South Africa, Eastern Division, R W Bro James Duggan - DGM South Africa, Western Division, R W Bro Colin Pedlar - DGM Orange Free State, South Africa, Bro Mansur Asaria - DGM DGLEA Scottish Constitution, R W Bro Sir J K Chande - PDGM and the 2008 Prestonian Lecturer, W Bro Robert Sillet.

23rd September: R W Bro Virendra K Talwar accompanied by several dignitaries officiated at the Foundation Stone Laying ceremony of the Kunduchi Health Centre - the 10th Freemasons’ Conference Charity Project. The first phase includes the construction of the dispensary building, necessary equipment and personnel at an estimated cost of USD 900,000. The second phase will be the construction of residential flats to generate income for long term.

23rd October: R  W Bro Virendra K Talwar officiated at the ground breaking ceremony of the Babla Diani Secondary School, the 9th FMC Charity Project, performed  by Mr. Kanubhai Babla, who has donated USD 1Million towards the project.

The construction work commenced in December 2010.


2011

January: Masonic Golfing Society established under the aegis of the District Grand Lodge of East Africa.

The District Grand Lodge of East Africa donated a trophy for the Lodge of the year and the District Grand Master, R W Bro Dr Virendra Kumar Talwar MBS presented the trophy to the Meridian Lodge, the inaugural winners.

28th January: The Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council for India M. Puis. Bro Stephen Hindes 33 visited East Africa Chapter No 259.

29 January: East Africa Conclave No 508 of the Order of the Red Cross of Constantine was consecrated in Feemasons’ Hall Nairobi by Rt III Kt. Lt. Col. Gerry Southwell, GCC, and Puis. Kt. Andrew Brass was installed as Primus Most Puissant Sovereign by Rt III Kt Roger Bricknell and Puis Kt Ted Ayres was installed as Viceroy by M Puis Kt Bruce Dyson. The Consecrating team also made four other Puissant Knights Ted Ayres, Joe Aluoch, George Mac’Odawa and Jude Loveday.

12 February: In the Scottish Craft District meeting. The RW District Grand Master on behalf of the Grand Lodge of Scotland, presented their Diamond Certificate to Bro Andrew Brass commemorating his 60 years of continuos membership of his mother Lodge. Bro Brass was initiated on 17 November, 1950.

DGLEA - SC also elected him a honorary member.

24th September: At the half yearly communication of the District Grand Lodge of East Africa, R W Bro Dr. Virendra Kumar Talwar, MBS awarded Certificates of Service to Freemasonry to W Bro Biharilal Keshavji Tanna and W Bro Cottalal Damji Pattni.

5th November: R W Bro Dr. Virendra Kumar Talwar MBS assisted by Grand Officers and District Officers officiated at the dedication of the Masonic Hall at Kisumu, Kenya.

December: Lodge of United Brethren No 9529 amalgamated with Owen Falls Lodge No 9447.


2012

9th March: Victoria Nyanza Lodge No 3492 celebrated its Centenary having been consecrated on 22nd May 1911. R W Bro Dr Virendra Kumar Talwar MBS  officiated at the Centenary meeting and presented the Centenary Warrant to the Lodge.

15th July: The District Grand Master R W Bro Dr Virendra Kumar Talwar officiated at a tree planting ceremony at the Freemasons Hall, Nairobi to commemorate the 25th anniversary of The Lodge of Friendship.

21st July: Bro Michael A Craig installed as the District Grand Master of the District Grand Lodge of East Africa, Scottish Constitution to succeed Bro Mansur Asaria. The delegation from the Grand Lodge of Scotland was led by the Grand Master Mason Bro Charles Ian Robert Wolrige, Gordon of Esslemont accompanied by Bro David M Bogg, the Grand Secretary and Bro Ramsay McGhee the Grand Director of Ceremonies and Proxy District Grand Master.

20th – 23rd September: The 11th Freemasons Conference held at the Leisure Lodge Resort, Mombasa. Attendance of 401 participants including R W Bro Dr Virendra Kumar Talwar DGM, V W Bro Nigel Brown – Grand Secretary UGLE as the Chief Guest, M W Bro Catalin Turliuc – Pro Grand Master of the National Grand Lodge of Romania, R W Bro Pierre Malan DGM South Africa (Eastern Division), Bro Michael Craig DGM, DGLEA Scottish Constitution, W Bro Robert Sillett the Prestonian Lecturer for 2008 and Bro Mansur Asaria Immediate Past District Grand Master, DGLEA Scottish Constitution.

The theme of the conference “Our Masonic Heritage”.

The highlight of the conference was a visit by the District Grand Master R W Bro Dr Virendra K Talwar accompanied by the Grand Secretary V W Bro Nigel Brown to the Babla Diani Secondary School which has been constructed at a cost of US Dollars One Million by East Africa Freemasons.

10 October: V. ILL Bro Walter O. Ookok 33° was installed as Sovereign Grand Inspector General of East Africa by M P Bro Alan J. Englefield 33° Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council 33° assisted by M. ILL Bro Robin E Fuber 33° Grand Secretary General, V. ILL Bro P G S Radford 33° Sovereign Grand Inspector Zambia and V. ILL Bro NGI Bosanquet 33° Grand Director of Ceremonies.

17 November: Lodge Menengai No 3559 celebrated its Centenary having been consecrated on 27th January 1912. R W Bro Dr Virendra Kumar Talwar MBS officiated at the Centenary Meeting and presented the Centenary Warrant to the Lodge.

8 December: R W Bro Anil A Shah installed as the District Grand Master of District Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons of EA by R W Bro A B Shah.


2013

20th January: The District Grand Master R W Bro Dr Virendra Kumar Talwar donated US Dollors 12,500 on behalf of the Lodge of Sardar Vallabh to the Lions Sight First Hospital. This was to mark the 25th Anniversary of the Lodge

1st June: Mombasa Lodge No 3645 Celebrated its Centenary having been consecrated on 31st May 1913. RW Bro Dr Virendra Kumar Talwar MBS officiated at the Centenary Meeting and presented the Centenary Warrant to the Lodge.

June: R W Bro Walter O Ookok succeeds R W Bro Kenneth Taylor as Provisional Grand Master Royal Order of Scotland.

2014

20th and 21st February: 1st All Africa and Asia Scottish Freemasons Conference held in Diani Mombasa. Opened by Bro. Charles Iain Robert Wolrige Gordon of Esslemont, Grand Master Mason accompanied by Grand Secretary, Bro. David Begg, Grand Director of Ceremonies and Proxy DGM, Bro. Ramsay McGhee. Attended by seven DGM’s from Scottish Districts and over 130 brethren representing eleven Scottish Districts worldwide.

14th March: Orient Lodge No 3703 celebrated its Centenary having been consecrated on 14th February 1914. RW Bro Dr Virendra Kumar Talwar MBS officiated at the Centenary Meeting and presented the Centenary Warrant to the Lodge.

18th - 21st September: The 12th Freemasons’ Conference held at White Sands Resort, DaresSalaam. Attendance of 320 participants including RW Bro Dr Virendra K Talwar - DGM and RW Bro Nigel Brown - Grand Secretary as the Chief Guest. Other participants included MW Bro Catalin Turluic - Pro Grand Master, Romania, RW Bro Guy Charlesworth - DGM South Africa North, RW Bro Pierre Malan - DGM South Africa Eastern, RW Bro James van Zyl - DGM Orange Free State, RW Bro Raymond E Flight - DGM Zimbabwe and Malawi, W Bro Nirmal Shaw - DGS Zambia and W Bro Robert Sillett - Prestonian Lecturer 2008.

18th September: RW Bro Dr Virendra K Talwar, RW Bro Nigel Brown and distinguished visitors to the 12th Freemasons’ Conference paid a visit to the construction site of the Kunduchi Health Centre - DaresSalaam. A time capsule was placed at the North East of the premises. The estimated cost of Phase I of this project is US$ 1 million.

18th December: An MOU was signed by RW Bro Dr Virendra K Talwar and Dr Manoj Shah, Chairman of M.P. Shah Hospital. The District Grand Lodge of East Africa has pledged US$ 500,000 towards construction and equipping a state of the art Physiotherapy Centre at the hospital.


2015

31st January: Progress Lodge No 3727 celebrated it’s Centenary having been consecrated on 16th December 1914. RW Bro Dr Virendra K Talwar officiated at the Meeting and presented the Centenary Warrant to the Lodge.
