A group of Masons has donated £35,000 to local charities to mark its 300th anniversary.

Royal Mile Primary School was one of the biggest benificiaries of the group's annual charity donations, receiving £6000.

The funds will be used to pay for nursey equipment, among other projects.

A donation of £2000 was made to Children's Hospice Association Scotland (CHAS).

The Masons also donated £2000 to St Columba's Hospice, which provides care for patients with active, progressive, far-advanced illness, as well as support for their relatives and carers.

£2000 has been given to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

The awards were made by the Journeyman's Masons, No.8 group.

Mason, Mark Arnot said he was 'delighted' to be able to give so much money to local charities.

He said: 'We are synonymous with giving money to children's charities to benefit local children, so I am particularly happy about being able to give money to the Royal Mile Primary School'.

'It is always good to be able to help and the charties are delighted.'
