The History Department of the University of Sheffield is offering an MA in Freemasonry
Freemasonry is increasingly being seen as a legitimate subject for academic study and can be approached from a number of disciplines - music, sociology, emigration, colonialism and of course history. The course will provide a range of skills centered on the history of Freemasonry thereby permitting the student to pursue independent research.
The MA offered by the University's History Department is wide ranging and includes an introduction to the assesment of biographical and archival material - necessary skills for this kind of course but which are easily transferable to other disciplines.
There will also be opportunities for work placement which will allow for the development of history specific skills in a working environment.
The MA will initially be taught 2008 - 2009 at the University and it is hoped that the course will be available by distance learning no later than 2010.
