The 75th Scottish Masonic Curling competition took place on Monday 15 March, 2010 at Dewar’s Centre, Perth.
Lodges from all over Scotland descended once again to take part in this annual competition for the ‘Glen Caladh’ Cup. Sadly there were only eight rinks taking part, some of the Brethren playing for other Lodges, in the true Masonic spirit.
Freemasons from the following Lodges took part The Lodge of Edinburgh (Mary’s Chapel) No. 1, St John No. 60, Perth Royal Arch No. 122, Kelburne No. 459, St Margaret No. 548, Balgonie No. 764, Kildrummie No. 906 and Baillie Nicol Jarvie No. 1036.
At the end of the afternoon’s competition Lodge Balgonie, No. 764 from the Province of Fife and Kinross emerged the winners with Lodge Baillie Nicol Jarvie No. 1036 from the Province of Perthshire West being runners up.
The Annual Provincial Grand Lodge of Perthshire East competition was played during the event with Lodge Perth Royal Arch No. 122 competing with two rinks against a rink from Lodge Kildrummie No. 906. Lodge Kildrummie winning the MacDonald Cup and the A team from Perth Royal Arch No. 122 coming runners up and winning the MacPherson Medal.
Following a High Tea, the Annual General Meeting of the Scottish Masonic Curling Association, was held and following a vote it was the unanimous decision, of those present, that the 2011 competition would be held at the Dewar’s Centre, Perth on a Monday in March 2011. The Honorary Secretary, Brother David Taylor, informed those present that he was at the mercy of the management of the Centre in respect of an exact date as other commitments of the venue had to be given first consideration. Brother Taylor indicated that he would let everyone know as soon as possible.
Brother Taylor informed those present that due to the dwindling numbers of ‘Masonic curlers’, there was a doubt about the future of this event. All present indicated that all should be done to ensure the future of this prestigious event. The Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of Perthshire East, Andrew Wilson, who was present for the prize giving ceremony and A.G.M, indicated that he would notify Grand Lodge and if it would be of help he would prepare a letter for the other Provinces in Scotland to see if other Lodges would be interested in taking part in next years competition, as it would be a shame to see yet another event disappear from the Scottish Masonic calendar.
