An Account of the Chapel of Roslin 1778

An Account of the Chapel of Roslin was first published in 1774 and is the first freely available guidebook about the chapel.  A second edition was published in 1778 and it is this edition which has been reprinted by the Grand Lodge of Scotland. 1778 was the year of the death of the first Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Scotland William St Clair of Rosslyn (1700-1778) and it seems that the publisher was taking advantage of the interest generated by the death of that individual. This work, although short (42 pages) is extremely important as it provides a time 'baseline' which can be used to assess all the other material published about the chapel.
