Structures of Freemasonry in Poland
For people not interested in details of freemasonry, it is usually a problem to recognise differces between various masonic organisations. We hope that this very brief page will serve as an opprotunity to have a glance at this matter.
Obediences
The freemasonry is not united and homogeneous, contrary to popular belief. The situation can be compared to the variety of christian churches (even though masonry is NOT a religion o religious organisation). Generally, in POland you can choose between four main obediences (streams in masonry):
- liberal freemasonry (also known as adogmatic) which is the most rational branch of masonry. It leaves the highest degree of freedom of conscience. No dogmas are forced. In particular, liberal freemasonry (sometimes called latine or continetal) initiates man are women alike. There is also no need to express the faith in God. In Poland, this type of freemasonry is represented by Grand Orient of Poland (established with help of one of most ancient and respected Grand Orient of France). Both Lodge Galileo Galilei and Masonic Triangle Hevelius fall into this type.
- mixed freemasonry less traditional, initiates both men and women. In Poland you can choose Mixed Masonic Order Droit Humain, which is an international organisation with local representation in Poland. It maintains official friendship with Grand Orient od Poland.
- feminine freemasonrya unique branch of freemasonry, accepting only women. Closely related to Grand Feminine Lodge of France. There are two Lodges: Prometea and Gaia Aeterna, both practicing the Craft in Warsaw. Maintains official friendship with Grand Orient od Poland.
- regular freemasonry (conservative), linked to the United Grand Lodge of England. It expects belief in God from the adepts, accepts men only. Its is represented by Grand National Lodge od Poland.
- Memphis-Misraim freemasonry - most spiritual and esoteric, deriving its roots from Egyptian priesthood. Available since 2012 in Poland. It maintains official friendship with Grand Orient od Poland.
