Chapter History
The Chapter was consecrated in 1894, over the years Master Masons of the Lodge have been exalted into the Chapter as well as from Coronation Lodge. In recent times, brethren from Emrys Lodge have joined the Chapter. At the Installation in September 2014, the pattern of the three Principals all being Past Masters of Emrys Lodge was broken, Andries Butzbach of Gold Field’s Lodge was installed as Joshua. The membership of the Chapter is twenty one with two honorary members. The honorary members are Frank Stock and Andrew Gray. Andrew was District Grand Secretary/Scribe Ezra before retiring to Cape, Andrew has recently moved to a Retirement Complex in Mossel Bay to be nearer his daughter. Sixteen of the members attend regularly. E.Comp John Stephens joined the Chapter in May 1999 having been a regular visitor since his exaltation into Doornfontein Chapter in January 1988 he was appointed Scribe Ezra of the Chapter in September 2000 and still holds that position to-day. John was appointed District Grand Scribe Nehemiah at the AGM in October 2014.
Gold Field’s Lodge has a membership of over twenty members it is hoped that as the members are raised to the Degree of Master Mason that they will be exalted in the Chapter to complete their Masonry.
The Chapter enjoys the support of the past principals, E.Companions John Holker, Chris Wiehe, Colin Smit, Des Haverly, Eddie Cleary, Arthur Bremner, Roy Menyennett, Tom Korff and Neill Liddiard.
An honorary member of the Chapter, Frank Stock, invariably heard before he is seen is famous for his quiz evenings in the Craft, Royal Arch and Mark degrees, an honorary member of the Scottish Constitution as well as the Grand Lodge of South Africa. Frank describes himself as the good looking one. Frank was a founder member of Lyceum Lodge of Research as well as St Vitus Rose Croix Chapter, and has assisted in producing plays for the benefit of Masonry.
