Lodge History
As the name of the lodge suggests it was formed to attract members and former members of the scouting movement. Although the founder of the movement was not a Freemason, permission was obtained to use his name, which was especially appropriate in view of Lord Baden Powell's association with South Africa, especially as Colonel in charge of the British force in Mafeking during the siege.
The lodge originally met in Parktown North but subsequently moved to Freemasons' Hall in Parktown. Candidates did not come forward as readily as was hoped but the first Masters have worked hard to put the lodge on a sound working basis, and their efforts are bearing fruit.
