Lodge History

Coronation Lodge Banner

The lodge was consecrated in the coronation year of Queen Elizabeth II, hence its name. The founders were mostly brethren of the Ancient Faith but a gradual balance was achieved and this blended characteristic remains, with the variation that in recent years, a number of immigrants from Mauritius have been welcomed into the lodge. The lodge meets at Park Lane, and has maintained a membership of between 40 and 50.

The lodge has, as the Secretary puts it, gone through the 'usual up and downs' but overall has made a steady contribution to Freemasonry in the District. One of its best known members is W Bro Frank Stock who, as a founder member of Lyceum Lodge of Research, has for a number of years been primarily responsible for that lodge's successful productions of masonic plays and workings of historical interest. He was also the acting Junior Warden of the District in 1990/1 and received Grand honours in 1994.
