Lodge History
The Charter Master was Derek Scorer, who - because of business commitments - had had to resign as Assistant District Grand Master in 1967, but was able to accept the office of President of the Board of General Purposes
The Lodge was formed to provide the District Grand Master, and indeed the District, with services falling under two broad headings, the organisation of District functions and the provision of demonstration workings. Its membership is restricted to Past District Grand Stewards and they are required to participate fully in all the activities of the Lodge for a minimum of 5 years after joining.
Paul Butterfield noted, in 'Centenary', that the Transvaal is the first District to have a Grand Stewards' Lodge and that, when formed, it was only the third such lodge under the English Constitution.
Throughout its existence the Lodge has sought to uphold the 'red collar' tradition and in particular has endeavoured to present demonstration workings wherever required; specifically it is 'paired' with one of the District's most isolated lodges, Amiantos.
