Ecobuild 2016

The High Performance Housing Stand at Ecobuild March 8-10 2016 will feature wall constructions, live build demonstrations and have technical experts available to explain how masonry can deliver sustainable housing that can meet and exceed building regulation requirements.

BRE Home Quality Mark

HQM is the new voluntary scheme for homes developed in response to the phasing out of the code for sustainable homes. MMA provided input to the summer 2015 consultation acknowledging the credits in the scheme for robust, long lasting and low maintenance external finishes. MMA challenged the absence of any consideration of fire. 

DECC Committee Inquiry

MMA submitted a response to the Energy and Climate Change Committee Inquiry titled “Home Energy Efficiency and Demand Reduction” in October 2015 and highlighted the energy performance and contribution that masonry homes can make to reducing heating energy demands and future energy demand due to minimising overheating.  Full submission available on request.

All Party Parliamentary Group for Excellence in the Built Environment

MMA provided input to the Inquiry titled “The Quality of New Build Housing in England” in October 2015 including recommendations to Expand and re-engage existing skilled work force as well as increase training provision and funding, ensure that Planning, Building Regulations and design assessment encourage whole life sustainable solutions, ensure that housing solutions are climate resilient and add protection of fabric in the event of fire to the current protection of occupants in the Building Regulations.

The Modern Masonry Alliance is a body that seeks to ensure developers and designers, customers and occupants understand the benefits of masonry solutions. It provides guidance on design of masonry and furnishes government and influencing organisations with the evidence of how masonry can contribute to a sustainable built environment. Founding association funders of MMA are Aircrete Product Association, Brick Development Association, Concrete Block Association and Mortar Industry Alliance.

The Modern Masonry Alliance is affiliated to British Precast, the trade association for precast concrete manufacturers and members of the supply chain.
