It most certainly is NOT a religion. This is probably one of the most common misconceptions about Freemasonry. While it does require that it’s members believe in a God, it does not, however, require a member or potential member to believe in any specific deity or to be from any particular religious background; it is open to any religion. In fact, religion and politics are two subjects which are not allowed to be discussed in an open Lodge!
