The Farthest North Masonic Lodge in the USA
The Masonic Temple
402 11th Street
Fairbanks, Alaska 99701
The Fairbanks Masonic Temple, built in 1904, is the oldest commercial building, and the oldest frame building in Fairbanks. It was bought by the Masons in 1906. This style of architecture is unique in Alaska. No other building has the detailed facade and metal ornamentation found in the Temple. The First Floor Ballroom has been the site of many local activities. When the school burned down, classes were held there; many churches have held their services there; and when a flood wiped out the newspaper, they moved the presses to the lodge and continued printing. The Fairbanks Masonic Temple is listed on the National Historic Register.
