M.W. Henry Peck 1843-1845

Henry Peck

Our sixteenth Grand Master was originally a member of Hiram Lodge No.1, being initiated September 23, 1819. He was born in the town of Berlin, January 3, 1795, and spent, most of his active life in New Haven as a member of the firm of Durrie and Peck, book publishers. The firm published many well known school books, histories and hymn books. Perhaps Webster's Spelling Book is their product most familiar to everyone.

Four years after entering the fraternity he became a charter member of Adelphi Lodge No. 63 and its Worshipful Master in 1830. This office he held for three years. This Lodge surrendered its Charter in 1834. When seven brothers asked for a restoration of the charter of Adelphi in 1849 Henry Peck was one of the number. Wooster Lodge No. 79 was instituted May 20, 1851, and a year later, May 26, 1852, Henry Peck affiliated with the Lodge remaining in its fold until" his death March 1, 1867.

He was exalted in Franklin Chapter No.2, R. A. M., February 2, 1824, and was elected High Priest in 1836. Harmony Council No.8 received and greeted him February.
