M.W. Eli Sanford Quintard 1865-1866

Eli Sanford Quintard

In the city of Norwalk, March 21, 1820, was born Eli Sanford Quintard. His education was that of the District School and Academy. Entering the service of the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad in 1849, he remained in their employ, except for two brief intervals, for nearly forty years. For a number of years he was Superintendent of the Derby Division. In 1888 he left the railroad. and entered mercantile pursuits in Waterbury.

Raised in Wooster Lodge, No. 79, May 2, 1856, in seven days time, he was Knighted in the Commandery. Master of Wooster Lodge" No. 79, in 1861; High Priest of Franklin Chapter, No.2, in 1861; Thrice Illustrious Master of Harmony Council, No.8, in 1860, and Eminent Commander ,of New Haven Commandery, No.2, in 1862,. 1863, 1871-1875, were among the offices he held. In the Scottish Rites bodies he also held office and was an Honorary 33˚ Mason.

Starting in the Grand Lodge as Grand Junior Deacon in 1863 he became Grand Master in 1865, an office which he held for two years. When Trumbull Lodge, No. 22. was constituted in 1869 he became a Charter Member, serving this lodge for a number of years as Treasurer and as Secretary.

He died at the ripe age of 83 years March 15, 1903. He was a man of firm, decided views, of unswerving fidelity, his friendship was true and sincere and he has left a record of faithful service which is worthy of imitation.
