Clark Buckingham

Born in New Milford August.5, 1831, and equipped with a common school education Clark Buckingham enlisted in the Union Army at the commencement of the war between the states and served for three years. In 1868 he removed to New Haven and from 1878 to 1895 was associated with G. J. Moffatt & Company as the Superintendent of an envelope and paper bag manufactory.

His career in Masonry began when he was raised in Trumbull Lodge, No. 22, on the 27th day of June, 1871. For four terms he served his Lodge as Master, 1876, 1880, 1881 and 1884. He was exalted in Franklin Chapter, No.2, R. A. M., November 3, 1874, received and greeted in Harmony Council, No.8, R. & S. M., March 19, 1877, and Knighted in New Haven Commandery, No.2, K. T., June 15, 1877. He was elected Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter O. E. S. in 1885.

After serving as District Deputy for New Haven County in 1880 he was appointed Grand Junior Steward in 1883 from which station he progressed until he became Grand Master in 1890. _ His interest in Masonic charity made him a member of the Board of Managers of The Masonic Charity Foundation at its formation. Appointed Superintendent of the Masonic Home in 1895 he served faithfully and well until his death March 17, 1900.

Brother Buckingham was ever distinguished for his earnestness, upright character and unswerving fidelity. His disinterested friendship, his stern integrity, his kind and friendly intercourse with his brethren and fellowmen, especially with those committed to his care at the Home, will ever be cherished in grateful remembrance.
