George Elmer Parsons

Most Worshipful Brother Parsons was born in Newburgh, Maine, May 31, 1863, removed to Norwich at an early age, and graduated from the Norwich Free Academy in 1884, being chosen as one of the class orators.

He was admitted to the bar in 1889. After a few years spent in law practice, he was elected Judge of Probate and served as such continuously from 1897 to 1905, at which time he retired in order to give his entire time to service as assistant clerk of the Superior Court. In 1907, he became clerk of the court and served continuously until September 1, 1928, .when he was retired at his own request, for reasons of poor health.

He was raised in St. James Lodge No. 23, June 21, 1887, and remained an honored member during the rest of his life. After service in minor offices, he served as Master in 1892 and 1893.

In Grand Lodge, he was appointed Grand Senior Steward in 1897 and proceeding by regular gradation was elected Grand Master in 1904, serving as such one year.

He also served as High Priest of Franklin Chapter No.4, R. A. M., Thrice Illustrious Master of Franklin Council No.3, R. & S. M., and Eminent Commander of Columbian Commandery No.4, K. T. His membership included the 32nd degree.

Although Brother Parsons' court duties for years prevented his attendance at Annuals, his lively interest in both Grand Lodge and Masonic Home matters, never flagged in the least. We shall always remember with gratitude and appreciation his ardent sympathy with, and often practical efforts for the welfare of the Masonic Home.

His death occurred in Norwich, November 15, 1928, and the Commandery had charge of the interment.
