M.W. Clarence Ramo Austin 1915
Clarence Ramo Austin
On September 15, 1936, M. W. Brother Austin departed this life in Brooklyn, New York, at the age of 78. Born in Tarrytown, New York, educated at the Episcopal Academy at Cheshire and at Trinity College, Hartford, he was an active and successful man of business.
Raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in Union Lodge, No. 31, in June 1901, he became Senior Deacon in 1902 and Master of the Lodge in 1904 and 1905. He was High Priest of Eureka Chapter in 1906 and Eminent Commander of Crusaders Commandery in 1909.
After serving in 1906 as Deputy for the second District he was appointed Grand Junior Steward and was elected Grand Master in 1915. It was a time of unusual activity in Masonic circles owing to the World War and his administration goes down in Masonic History as one of harmony and progress.
He was a devout Christian Gentleman who labored for his Church in his capacity as Lay Reader and Junior Warden of St. James Church, Danbury, with the same earnestness and devotion that he displayed in business and fraternity life and his gentle, quiet manners made him friends in every walk of life.
