Most Worshipful Brother Charles W. Cramer, the seventy-fifth Grand Master of Masons in Connecticut, after an extended illness, passed away at the Hartford Hospital on Friday, May 12, 1961. He is survived by his wife, Flora Marshall Cramer, two daughters, two brothers, two sisters and four grandchildren. .
He was born in Portland, Connecticut, attended its public schools and was graduated from Yale University in 1904 with a law degree.
Returning to his native town he took an active part in its civic affairs. He was, for a time, Probate Judge of the Chatham Probate District, served as attorney for the Town of Portland and in 1915 was appointed Assistant State Tax Collector. He left the latter position to assume the private practice of law in Hartford where he resided for the remainder of his life
Brother Cramer was also a co-author of a "Handbook of the Law for Connecticut Women".
He was at various times a member of the Hartford and of the West Hartford Rotary Clubs, the Hartford City Club, Golf Club and Young Men's Christian Association.
With continuing interest in civic affairs he served as a member of the Connecticut Water Commission, the Hartford Water Board and as a member of the High School Committee.
Most Worshipful Brother Cramer was raised in Warren Lodge No. 51 of Portland, on October 27, 1904 and was elected Worshipful Master of his lodge for the year 1908. He was the District Deputy for the 7th Masonic District of the Grand Lodge-e of Connecticut for four years. 1909 through 1912. Appointed to the Grand Lodge line as Grand Junior Steward in 1913, he was regularly advanced to become Mo~ Worshipful Grand Master in 1921. On December 2, 1954 he was presented with the Grand Lodge 50-year Gold Membership Button signifying the completion of 50 years of Masonic membership. Brother Cramer also held membership in Pythagoras Chapter. R.A.M.: Wolcott Council, R.&S.M.; Washington Commandery, K.T.; the Hartford Scottish Rite Bodies; Connecticut Consistory and Sphinx Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S.
Funeral services were held at 71 Farmington Avenue. Hartford on Monday, May 15. 1961 with the Rev. Wallace Grant Fisk officiating. Burial was in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, Connecticut.
