Justin Holden

Born in Preston, October 5, 1852, Justin Holden received his early education in that town where he taught school for a time. Later he entered into business life in Norwich, first as an employee and afterwards as proprietor of a meat and grocery house, and was known far and wide for his probity and square dealing.

He was raised in Somerset Lodge No. 34, April 29, 1874, and remained an honored member of that Lodge during the remainder of his life. After serving in minor offices he was Worshipful Master in the years 1896 and 1897.

For three years 1898, 1899 and 1903, he was District Deputy and in 1904 was appointed Grand Junior Steward. In January 1912, he was elected Grand Master and served one year. In Franklin Chapter No.4, R. A. M., he had been High Priest, and in Franklin Council No.3, R. & S. M., he had been Thrice Illustrious Master. He was also a member of Columbian Commandery No.4, K. T.

He was a life long member of the Methodist Church in which he was a faithful worker. Politically he was a Republican and as such represented his town in the General Assembly. Other offices in his community were filled by him. His death occurred April 25, 1928.
