M.W. Theodore Foster 1927

Theodore Foster

Born February 6, 1875, at Chester Died February 11, 1937

Theodore Foster's home circle was in Chester, where as son of William and Marianna Osborne Foster, except for a few brief years, while he was pursuing the study of dentistry in Atlanta, he spent his entire lifetime occupying the old Foster Homestead, the house in which he was born.

In the public schools of Chester, Theodore Foster received his early education, later being awarded the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery by Atlanta Dental College.

Of him it can be said, as moreover it can be said of other Masons, that he contributed to his profession courtesy and affability, kindness and condescension. To his town he gave unstintingly of his services and enriched the records and archives of Chester with over a hundred photographs of the oldest houses in the town. A natural actor and accomplished singer, he appeared on many occasions before civic, social and fraternal groups in Chester and neighboring communities.

In 1899, Dr. Foster married Miss Estelle Watrous, who survives him, as does a brother, Frank A., of Atlanta, and a niece.

Dr. Foster was raised in Trinity Lodge, No. 43, April 28, 1902, and in 1923, he became a Charter Member of Solar Lodge, No. 131. He later participated as a dual member with his Mother Lodge. After serving Trinity Lodge twice as Master he served the Seventh Masonic District as District Deputy for five years, beginning in 1916, and in 1927 he was elected Grand Master and later accepted appointments on numerous committees of the Grand Lodge.

Past Grand Master Foster was endowed with a charming personality, enriched by a most pervading and friendly smile. He was continually surrounded by a host of friends who have been made the happier because they knew him.

Let us in youth remember Him
Who formed our frame and spirits gave,
Ere windows of the mind grow dim
Or door of speech obstructed wave.
When voice of bird fresh terrors awake
And Music's daughters charm no more,
Or fear to rise with trembling shake
Along the path we travel o'er.
