"His work was unfinished
Yet his column is broken,
His death was untimely
And his Brethren mourn."

The sudden passing of Most Worshipful Past Grand Master and our Grand Secretary
Illustrious William Campbell, 33° leaves a Masonic record of fraternal accomplishments unequaled in the annals of Connecticut Masonry.

While we mourn the loss of our distinguished Brother from our fellowship, we are richer for his devoted service and wise counsel of many years.

The Craft will long remember his zealous interest in all branches of the fraternity, giving generously of his time and talents, creating an indelible record of Masonic achievements.

He was the recipient of many honorary memberships, degrees, citations and awards, each of which was a tribute to his ability, dedication and service to local, State and national Masonic groups.

The Grand Lodges of Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Vermont and Connecticut each individually conferred upon him their highest award for "Distinguished Masonic Service".

It would be a gargantuan task to enumerate each of the offices, committees, group meetings, appointments, responsibilities and duties he participated in during his fraternal journey, each of which he entered into with fervency and zeal .

Raised a Master Mason in Fidelity Lodge # 134 in Fairfield, CT May '1946, and served as its Worshipful Master in 1953. In 1954 he became the 'Charter Worshipful Master of Lafayette Lodge # 141 instituted that year as the second Blue Lodge in Fairfield, CT.

He received his Scottish Rite Degrees in Bridgeport, CT in 1954. The fourteenth in Clinton Lodge of Perfection, - the sixteenth in Washington Council, the eighteenth in Pequonnock Chapter and the thirty-second degree in Lafayette Consistory.

He was a member of Pyramid Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. - Bridgeport, the Marie Lafayette Chapter, O.£.S., the Red Cross of Constantine, and the Royal Order of Scotland.

In 1957 Grand Master Conrad Hahn appointed him a District Deputy Grand Master and served two years in the First District.

He began his Grand Lodge office by accepting appointment as Grand Junior Steward and progressed in the line offices and was elected Most Worshipful Grand Master in 1965.

The office of Grand Secretary became vacant and he was appointed to serve by Grand Master William Wyman, and was elected Grand Secretary in 1967 and re-elected each year for fourteen consecutive terms.

The Supreme Council Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite in 1967 at their annual meeting in Pittsburgh created him a Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 330 Honorary Member. He was crowned Active Member and installed Deputy for Connecticut on September 28, 1978 and was so serving as such at the time of his passing.

Brother Bill Campbell built an enviable Masonic record in the many offices that he so capably and efficiently occupied. Masonry has lost a respected, dedicated and distinguished servant.

At the age of seventeen he was initiated into the Order of DeMolay, a deep interest he held all during his life, as a Master Councilor, State Councilor and Executive officer of the Supreme Council, and a member of the International Executive Committee.

He was an active Boy Scouter and served in many offices in his adult life.

A tremendously enthusiastic and energetic worker for youth and youth organizations, his kindly and friendly counsel and guidance will be sorely missed by many in the days to come.

In all of the various activities in which Brother Bill was involved, aside from his home and church, the Masonic Home and Hospital held his greatest interest. He was elected to the Board of 1I1anagers in 1964 and was subsequently elected Secretary of the Corporation in 1967 and has served the institution with intense devotion for fourteen years as secretary and Board member.

The Congregational Church at Wallingford received his help as a Trustee and executive committee member.

In 1936 he was united in marriage to Adele Davis who survives him.

A son, James, lives nearby.

Fidelity Lodge # 134 performed the Masonic Burial Service on Sunday, June 28 and services were held in the Congregational Church on Monday, June 29 followed by interment at Oaklawn Cemetery in Fairfield, CT. The Reverend Bruce Bunker, Pastor of the church, officiated.

Admired and respected by all who knew him, he enriched every life and relationship with which he was associated.

He lived by the principles and truths of Masonry, and thus created a life tapestry in which all the great tenets of 1I1asonry formed and dominated his life pattern.
