Christopher Thomas Wyld

Christopher Thomas Wyld, 82, of Waterford, died Sunday, (December 12, 1999) at the Masonic Geriatric Healthcare Center in Wallingford. Mr. Wyld was born on February 3, 1917 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Christopher and Anna (Paul) Wyld. He was married to the late Alma Virginia Collie on June 1, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA.

Mr. Wyld worked at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton from 1949 to 1981, when he retired as Senior Technical Specialist, Computer Aided Design.

He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, serving on the vestry for five 3 year terms, and as a member of its men and boys choir for 25 years.

Mr. Wyld was a member of Brainard Masonic Lodge No.102. A.F. & A.M., serving as Worshipful Master in 1961 and 1969, and as secretary for eight years. In 1982-1983, Mr. Wyld served as Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut. He was also a member of Scottish Rite Bodies, and Commander-in-Chief in 1984-1986 of Connecticut Consistory. Mr. Wyld was the recipient of Arthur M. Brown 32 degree Meritorious Service Award from the Connecticut Council of Deliberation in 1969. In 1973, he was coronetted an Honorary 33 degree Member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite. He was a noble of Sphinx Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. in Newington and the Bedouin Shrine Club. He was a member and Past Patron of Fidelity Chapter No. 54, Order of the Eastern Star in New London. He was also a former member of the Executive Committee of the George Washington Masonic National Memorial Foundation in Arlington, VA and a former member of the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army in New London.

Mr. Wyld is survived by two sons, Robert T. Wyld of New London, John P. Wyld of Chesapeak, VA; and daughter, Jean A. Wyld of Seven Valleys, PA. He was predeceased by his brother, John, in Philadelphia, PA, in 1987. The funeral service will be held at St. James Episcopal Church in New London at 10 a.m., Thursday. Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London. Memorial contributions may be made to the Masonic Charity Foundation, Wallingford, The Shiners Hospital for Crippled Children, Springfield, MA, and St. James Epicopal Church, New London.
