M.W. Frederick H. Lorenson Biography 1983
Frederick H. Lorenson was born September 7, 1922 in Naugatuck, Connecticut and died in Waterbury, Connecticut on August 26, 2010. He was the son of Oscar and Edith (Anderson) Lorenson. He attended the public schools in Bristol, Connecticut and graduated from Bristol High School in 1940. He received his BA Degree from Wesleyan University, Midddletown, Connecticut with a Major in Mathematics. He was inducted into Sigma Zi Society as a result of his research work. He was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity and served as its President.
An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he graduated from navigation school in Selma, Louisiana and served with the 735th Squadron of the 453rd Bomb Group in England as a Captain Navigator from May 1944 through November 1944. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters. He received his engineers rating for B-29's and flew out of Randolph Field in Texas before his separation from service in November 1946.
On September 24, 1949 he was married to Carolyn Marjorie (Darelius) of Providence, Rhode Island. Their marriage was blessed with three children and five grandchildren.
He served as Plant Engineer with Formatic Company and also with Sylvania Electric in Naugatuck. He founded Metalmold, Inc. in 1958 and retired in 1988.
He was a fifty year member of the Hillside Covenant Church serving as a Hi League counselor, Sunday School teacher, Church Secretary, Trustee Financial Secretary, Vice-Chairman, member of the Church Choir and Auditor.
Raised a Master Mason in Shepherd Lodge No. 78 F&AM in 1956 he served as its Worshipful Master in 1964. In the Scottish Rite Valley of Waterbury, he was a member of Doric Lodge of Perfection, Ionic Council Prince of Jerusalem, and Corinthian Chapter of Rose Croix, serving as Most Wise Master in 1972. A member of Lafayette Consistory, Valley of Bridgeport, he served in the line at every station becoming the Commander-in-Chief in 1980-81. He was created a Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33rd Degree in Boston, Massachusetts on September 24, 1975 and was crowned an Active Member of the Supreme Council on September 30 1981. Serving on committees, he also served as Grand Sword Bearer until 1991 when he was elected as Grand Captain General. He served until 1997 when he became Active Emeritus. He served the Grand Lodge of Connecticut as District Deputy in 1965. He was appointed to the Grand Lodge line and served in each station and served as Grand Master of Masons in Connecticut in 1983-84. He served on the Board of the Charity Foundation of Connecticut. He also served as Grand Representative to Kentucky until 1998 when he was appointed Grand Representative to Sweden. He was proud of his association with many appendant Masonic Bodies. A member of St. Andrew's Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, Hartford, Connecticut, he served as its Sovereign in 1998. He was named Indendant General from Connecticut in 1990 and served until 1996 when he was installed Grand Almoner of the United Grand Imperial Council.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Carolyn Darelius Lorenson, his children and their spouses, Sheryl and Bill Stone, Keith and Debby Lorenson, Nancy and Jeff Cook and his grandchildren, Caitlin Stone, Jeremy Stone and his wife Erin, Elizabeth Lorenson, Chelsea Cook and Chad Cook. He is also survived by his five siblings and their spouses: Ralph and Joan Lorenson, Arthur and Wilma Lorenson, Harold and Phoebe Lorenson, Edward and Laura Lorenson and Edith and Robert Judd.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday August 31, 2020 at 2 pm at the Hilltop Covenant Church, 82 Hicksville Road Cromwell, CT 06416-2409. A private burial will be held in Grove Cemetery, Naugatuck. Friends may call at the Alderson Funeral Home of Naugatuck on Monday Aug. 30, 2010 from 5 to 8 pm. Members of Shepherd-Salem Lodge will conduct a Masonic Service at the funeral home on Monday evening at 7:30 pm.
