RAOB Hall, town of Kingscote on Kangaroo Island South Australia

Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes kangaroo island

Stephen, Past Master of Lodge Devotion and
his wife Sue are currently on Kangaroo Island South Australia and visited the local Buff Hall Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes).  Kingscote is the largest town on the Island with a population of about 2,000 people. Steve sent me a picture of RAOB regalia taken there and above is a picture taken by Steve of the Buff Hall in Kingcote.

The building was built by VRS (Vic) Boothey using local stones that he carved by hand in 1928. The land was owned by Emilty Uren and she transferred it to Otim Singh, Charles Bell, Charles Turner, Edgar Pledge, Herbert Bald and Victor Boothby in 1925. It is likely these men acted at trustees for the property. "Old Style" Dances were held every Monday to help with the cost of the building. The admittance free was one shilling, but in the 1930's there was an entertainment tax of three pennies which was 25%. In 1948 the property was vested in the RAOB.
